Sustainability Tips: Solar & More!

There are many simple, everyday changes we can make to contribute to a cleaner future. Carbon emissions began to pollute our atmosphere significantly at the start of the industrial revolution and have only continued to reach new all-time-highs. Going solar now is a huge step towards living a more sustainable life - not only in terms of eco-friendliness, but also by giving you the financial freedom to prioritize what's most important to you.

More and more cars are becoming electric and in general, our nation has shifted to a new era of spending more time in our homes. Click here to learn more about the benefits of going solar. At OneSun, we place great importance on the role we play to drive growth of solar energy use in our communities. The future is here every day and practicing our duty to make the right choices for ourselves, our families, and future generations to come goes a long way.

Aside from going solar, here are our favorite sustainability tips!

1. Recycle: It's simple, but recyclable materials unnecessarily end up in landfills and our oceans in large amounts. For example, plastic makes up ~40% of the world's beaches. As a result, many animals are killed and many resources are wasted.

2. Practice minimalism: In a capitalism-heavy society, we often tend to purchase or acquire more than what is truly needed. You may have clothes you purchased years ago and no longer wear, or more makeup / personal hygiene products than what you use regularly. Simply reflecting on what items you own and what use they serve in your life is a huge step towards a better environment and as a bonus, a clearer headspace!

3. Manage utility use: Avoid leaving tap water on when not in use, or leaving the AC and lights on for longer than necessary periods of time. Not only will this step reduce your electricity bills, but when you go solar, it will also optimize your system performance and further increase your savings.

4. If a reusable or eco-friendly product exists, use it! There are many items we use on a daily basis which there are sustainable alternatives for. Not only will this save you money, but you will also significantly reduce your waste. Examples include:

  • Reusable water bottles instead of plastic bottles

  • Reusable cotton pads instead of disposable ones

  • Ethically made, high-quality fashion

  • Bar of soap with recyclable packaging instead of liquid soap in containers

  • Reusable shopping bags instead of plastic ones
